Skirting opportunity

Could you help me out , i have got to fit some skirting (torus/ogee) to a wall that has a 50mm step down both sides of room how is this achieved ?
are there any drawings or text i can draw on from the web or can anyone post a drawing with explanation please .. many thanks

I would fix the top edge of the skirting level all the way round the room, and make the skirting 50mm deeper where needed, by adding a strip underneath it.

You probably need to biscuit joint the 50mm strip to the bottom edge of the skirting, to keep it aligned.

Thanks for the reply , but the room has skirting already in place it is a gap where a wall came out so effectively i am going from like for like skirting but wtih this 50mm drop included , so more ideas please .

Well take the skirting off then and do as suggested. Making a step in the skirting will only exaggerate the difference.

The best way is to fix a piece of skirting vertically at the junction where both the skirtings meet using mitres at the connection points.
You will end up with a continuous run of skirting down and through the two levels.
Hope this makes sense as I have not been able to find a sketch showing an example.

Anobium that sounds about right to me , the first answer that makes sense to solve the problem as i do not want to rip out lengths of skirting as suggested by other posters cheers .

all depends on the set up

sometimes its return ends where where both parts turn back into the wall at there own level

sometimes its a gradient between the levels

somtimes its a more complicated right angle step between angles

sometimes its loosing the difference over the area around the different levels

and sometimes you continue one level to another

all depends on circumstances with the easiest or most obvious route not neseserily being the best looking choice

you need a GOOD eye as to what looks good reference books feed the imagination but don't give you good taste

a picture or diagram with all the angles will be helpfull
