I have a 2008 Skoda Roomster 1.6 Petrol Auto. The low beam light has gone on one side, the high beam is fine. According to the manual there is only a single H4 (low beam and main beam) bulb in the fitting, no mention of a separate low beam bulb .

I opened the cover on the other side to see if there are two separate bulbs because the faulty end has got a charcoal filter in the way of the cover. I can see the H4 main beam but I can't see another bulb.

Help!

H4 or H7 depending on which fitting you have. Remove the one you can access and see what it says on the body.

Its a H4. I'm confused, if there is only one bulb and the main beam is fine then why change it. But then how do I get the low beam to work again. I thought there must be two separate bulbs, but I can only see the one. Is the low beam somewhere else?

I'm confused a bit.....the H4 is a two filament, three wire bulb - all you need.
If one beam has failed, extract the bulb and the filament failure will be obvious.

Aah, I understand now. It has three connectors at the bottom. So I assume that one is for the ground, then one for high beam and one for low beam. Thank you for explaining that.

Yep, that's correct.
Do check the plastic bulb connector though, they have been known to melt!

That's interesting, I recently learnt (from another forum) that some BMW owners had experienced the same problem.
Cheap plastic or inferior bulbs I wonder?

For sure, it has to be excess heat transferring from the bulb, resistance in the connection or cheapo plastic......maybe the holder is in an area that doesn't get any draught - who knows?

In the BM case(s) it was the high level brake lamp, situated on the parcel shelf with bulb access via the boot (or trunk in the case of US owners)
