Leicester, Towcester, Leominster (lemster) all pronounced the same sort of way - or better still St.Osyth (toozey), Happisburgh (aayz-boro) or Kirkudbright (cur-coo-bri). As to slough-itt (Slaithwaite), it's no worse than lundun-foot (Luddendenfoot - try saying that after a few beers) or barlick (Barnoldswick - where Rolls Royce build RB or "Rolls Barnoldswick" engines). Then you get places nobody can agree in the pronunciation of, like Bacup (backupp or baycupp) and Facit (no comment)
