You mean the additional gadget thingy? No, that's just a gimmick. I don't even know where ours is, since I started knocking our kitchen about during my op convalescence.

I'm not using the 'smart meters are better' argument. I'm a fan because meter reading for me was a pain. I'm also perplexed as to why having automatic transmission of meter readings can possibly be a problem or an incumbrance to anyone.

What battery? I've never seen one in the old analogue meters? Or in my smart meter for that matter.

They're inside it so you won't see it. Apart from E6 meters the old analogue ones didn't need a battery as they have no LCD display, this is for gas meters, electric I'm not sure of, but seeing as they are wired into the mains, they probably don't need a battery.
