Hi, was just wondering if its alright to loop 2 new detectors off 1 smokie in an existing interconnected system?
Or do they have to be looped from one to the next.
Probably not good practice but would save me a lot of hassle :)

Are we talking main interlinked here? If so, you can wire it as you wish - a star formation is fine.

IF it is fire alarm system, then no, you have to keep the system as a long radial with a final detector having the end of line device in it. This monitors the cable. If you had a spur, the spur would not be monitored.

To 'spur' from a fire alarm system it is common to use 4 core and earth cable - two cores one way, and two back. Jointed accordingly behind the detector.

Hi, sorry should have said, its a domestic mains interlinked and not a fire alarm system.
Thanks for your quick reply, appreciated

depends on the system, some are addressable and can be wired in a spider fassion..
there are others that work on RF and need only recievers strategically placed about the installation.

Addressable systems wired in a star formation? Even addressable systems are usually wired as a radial or as a loop. Loops being fairly common on addressable systems, with the use of loop isolators at strategic positions. Some systems incorporate a loop isolator in a detector.

Anyway, this is obviously well off topic as the OP has stated mains interlinked.
