Snap/clap noise in kitchen/living room ceiling 2nd floor flat

Is it that loud and distinct in real life or is the recording making it sound louder than it is. How often each day is it or do some days go by without it happening.

It happens every day, all year round. It is probably the same as the recording, but it can range, sometimes louder, and other times quieter. In August last year, I wrote down all the times it happened over 8 days. There is no real pattern. Some of the times aren't listed as we missed them while we were asleep or out.

I've recorded the following times and dates:
  • August 22, 2023 - 14:44
  • August 24, 2023 - 15:53
  • August 24, 2023 - 17:36

Could try speaking to the others in the building to see if they have heard the same things in their flats.

Our neighbours have heard a similar noise in their kitchen, but I don't think it's as frequent as ours.

Got to be mechanical, and likely something spring-loaded, so my guess is a back-draught shutter on a fan duct.

Sounds too loud for expansion... but don't suppose there are any hot taps on/heating operating when you get the sounds?

We have run all the taps, turned on the heating and flushed the toilet. Our neighbours upstairs have also done the same and it hasn’t triggered the noise

I've added the videos to Youtube:

That sounds like EHT flashing over. A bit unlikely though..

Last time I heard a noise like that, was in an high voltage plenum chamber, dust extraction system.

We do have a Vent-Axia in the kitchen that is constantly running. The actual system is situated in another room, which houses our washing machine and another vent.

Try disconnecting it. In fact have you tried turning off individual electrical circuits to see if you can identifying which one is supplying whatever it is?

I don't think a gas hob in the ceiling passes regulations. Happy to be corrected.

Are there any points in the ceiling that you can open up and pass a USB inspection camera through?
they are relatively cheap in the marketplace.
