Just reading about CORGI going 31 March.

Its taken a long time to think gas safety = Corgi.

Any views?

Not really bothered who runs it, one thing I am concerned about is the lack of publicity I think the publicity campaign should have started weeks ago. :?

Thats what I was implying, most people are so used to seeing the Corgi sign, even tv's watchdog are still saying Corgi.

The new holders of the Register, CAPITA, are scheduled to run a "public awareness" campaign ,commencing MARCH 2009 ,though personally i am of the opinion that they have already "missed the boat" :!:

I had no idea about this (I'm not in the trade so why would I).

Any ideas on the motivation behind this move? Corgi has a strong brand.

Basically CORGI were not doing their job and lost the cash cow they have milked for years.HSE put the register out for tender and CAPITA landed it.

and thats the problem us gas blokes face, people don't know that it's changing. I think theres going to be a few more cowboys about soon with all this confusion on who to use

The majority of the public don't care. And even if they did, the Capita product isn't ready for publication yet. Have you seen the state of the web site?

I don't see any scope for confusion. It's CORGI until it's Capita.

Does anyone get confused when a Labour government is superceded by a Conservative one?

Regarding cowboys, the industry isn't to blame. If every punter paid the right money for a good job by a good trader, then there would be no cowboys.

Have you seen a punter's expression glaze over if you ever summarise the legislation to them?

TV programs are mostly recorded months in advance.

When they finally catch up and explain who Capita are and that CORGI have gone then 10% of the population will be in the know!

Thats a big chunk of the population brought up to speed quickly.

Sounds like a Spanish financial institution :? ! To someone on the “outside”, it seems totally pointless  ; a bit like “Norwich Union” is soon to be “Aviva”; who gives a shirt & they are spending millions telling us about it!

Well, either you were never bothered by the inefficiencies of CORGI, and their sheer gall in complacently creating a profit-making company that traded on the name of the not-for-profit agency that the HSE conceived, in which case you have little interest in gas safety, or you haven't read about the reasons for re-assigning the register to Capita, in which case you're ignorant about gas safety, or both.

So, uninterested, or ignorant, or both?

Thanks for the “slap” Softus :? but the shirt comment was actually directed at “Aviva” which, if you live in Norfolk would have considerable meaning; I obviously didn’t make myself clear but didn’t realise I would have to!

For the record, I do have an interest & am not ignorant about gas safety but not being directly concerned, I confess to not having studied the reasons for re-assigning. But, like Diyisfun, I think it’s going to lead to total confusion as far as the general public is concerned.

No slap intended.

I still don't see the scope for any confusion, let alone total confusion.

Did people get confused when Margaret Thatcher privatised British Gas, or British Rail? It certainly didn't baffle the people who bought shares in those companies.

And if the change to Capita it makes people realise that they didn't understand the existing 'regime', then I would say the education will be a good thing.

On a trivial point, the entrenched childish connotation with a breed of dog will simply vaporise, and that has to be a good thing, because it encouraged people to take a deadly serious matter and make it into something that was pathetic and comical. The CORGI acronym was about as good an idea as it would be to rename the Police force "The Cute Little Chihuahuas".

I visit many homes and do some gas work at about a quarter of them.

Its very rarely that I ever get asked about CORGI but I do remember being asked when someone wanted some bath taps changed!

I dont really think that its going to make any difference at all and I expect I might get asked about twice a week about the new registration during the campaign and then once a month afterwards.

I am expecting to have a bunch of leaflets to hand out.

Clearly I've been posting on the wrong topic. I can see now that this was a thinly veiled invitation to Agile to present yet more suicide-inducing anecdotal 'evidence' apropos of absolutely nothing.

Watch out for the bunch of fives being handed back.
