No, compulsion is not liberal.Make voting compulsory and make it PR so everyones votes counts. Isn't that what we want from a liberal democracy?

How should all the spoiled votes be counted? If they dont want to vote they can spoil their vote.
Good candidates would help.People need to be encouraged to vote.

As I've said before, I always lived in a 'safe' constituency on both sides of the fence, so my vote has NEVER made any difference.

What are you on about? So its not compulsion to make people wear seat belts but it is to ask them to vote.

Perhaps if you put your two comments together:Because you are suggesting only 28% rejected it? While that is true, it doesn’t mean 72% were in favour.
Either the exam question was wrong or the majority (almost 70%) rejected it. So it doesn’t support the idea that people want change.

I fully agree, but compulsion is not an acceptable way. Education is the right way.People need to be encouraged to vote.

Good idea, Hey hang on that's ageist, 'cos older people are more likely to use postal votes.quite a few countries make voting compulsory .
Compulsory attendance only makes you attend.
Once there, you may as well vote. or spoil the ballot.
Or apply for a postal vote.
maybe enter each attendee at a polling station in a draw to win a lottery style prize?
What do you tell people , the truth?Education is the right way.

I don't mean education in terms of any one party's policies. I mean education about how the system works, how the different levels of government interact, how to improve or increase an individual's influence, how politics can be and is manipulated etc. What do you tell people , the truth?
Thought you wanted more voters?
