Ohhhh I see, many of us thought it's something you do on a regular basis.

I know, because for so many of you that sort of thing is so normal that you cannot conceive that there are people for whom it is not. And it's compounded by some people being so blinkered in their political and social views that they cannot conceive that others might genuinely have opposing positions, so they brand any expression of those opposing views as not genuine, as wind-ups, as trolling.

Why would "many people" think that I deliberately wind people up "on a regular basis"?

As I said - I never do it at all. I am an intelligent adult, and it would no more occur to me to deliberately wind someone up than it would to punch them in the face if I disagreed with them, or run them off the road if I didn't like their driving.

And who would? What kind of person(s) inhabit a world where deliberately winding people up is such a common thing to do, that they therefore just assume that everyone does it?

I don't assume that they are claiming that they believe a particular thing out of cynicism, or to wind me up.

Why would someone, when faced with disagreement with their views on a given issue decide that such disagreement couldn't possibly be genuine, and that therefore I could only be expressing it cynically, with the aim of provoking them, or of causing disruption, for my amusement?

What does such an attitude say about their understanding of the true prevalence of their beliefs?

All I can say is that having installed countless galv boxes in gypsum plasters of all varieties, I have never had an issue with corrosion.

Sure, I've come across corroded galv boxes before, but only where there is obvious damp or water ingress into the building.

I've never noticed plaster not fully drying out. Moisture levels in my walls after being recently plastered and given time to dry out were 7-8%, which is OK, isn't it?

Surely if there was a big issue with galv boxes and gypsum, the manufacturers would have a rethink and make them from plastic?

The last point, they do make flush plastic boxes

No need to ban metal boxes because they can be affected by corrosion in certain conditions

I believe i also saw the effects of this corrosion bit it's only a vague memory

Oh, I wasn't suggesting getting rid of them. They have their uses in dry wall.

I'm out of touch with the market, I haven't seen these boxes.

I'm not for a moment trying to say there is a big issue but I have quite often seen a rust line at the junction between plaster/filler and the metal BB. Most noticeable with white products. Whether galv or black lacquer I can't say.

The moisture level in the walls is very dependant on the humidity and the barrier between the wall and the humidity, for example a tiled or gloss painted wall is almost waterproof but bare plaster is far from that.

I have seen some breakdown of BE boxes in older houses, but nothing major.

I used to fit shed-loads of BE conduit in the 80s, but soon switched to galv.
