I want to fit some soffit lighting above the front door and garage doors It is UPVC.

I fed a wire into the roof space from a switch in the hall when it was decorated last year and I can get power from the garage lighting circuit.

These will be outside so am I tied to shower type downlighters? e.g http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Lighting_External_Index/Shower_Lighting_Halogen/index.html and what IP rating do I need.

I want dusk to dawn auto switching so are these any good? http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/ERPEC1000.html

As all the wiring will be internal is this notifiable?

Hello,
Maybe some LED lighting might be another option, worked off of a 'plug in' timer from inside the garage ? Would work out a lot cheaper to run and a 'softer' light.
Just a thought ;) .

Not sure if it is notifiable, the NIC say work in the garden is notifiable but not sure this comes into that  .

(Sorry, in a rush)

Personally I would go for the shower type fittings with LED lamps (very energy efficient and very very little heat is generated - heat will discolour your PVC soffits). I would also use a photocell similar to the one you are proposing to use, although be careful as while they will have a maximum load rating they might also have a minimum load rating!! and LED lamps probably won't achieve this. Although at 3W each you could run one for 333 1/3 hours before it cost you a unit of electricity.

Looks like being white shower fittings with LED lights - cheaper than low energy GU10s and no transformers to worry about.

For future flexibility anyone know where I can get shower type GU10 downlighters with floating connectors?

Will see what information I can find on the light sensor before I jump.

From approved document P:

"The installation of equipment attached to the outside wall of a house (for example security lighting, ...) is not notifiable provided that there are no exposed outdoor connections etc"

(where 'etc' is the usual caveat about not being a new cct/ in a kitchen/special location or special installation)
