hi there,

We are planning a rear extension on the back of our 1930 terraced house. We plan on taking out the rear walls to create a big open plan room.

The soil stack currently runs at the back of the house but with the extension this will be in the way?

What's the best way to re route this to the back of the extension? A further 4 meters out? Can it be someho run in the roof void?

Thanks in advance

We had exactly this and we have boxed it in in the kitchen just next to our side wall. Apparently it's always best to avoid corners in soil stacks as much as possible due to the potential for leaks or even blockages!
However as long as you keep it 900mm above any opening windows within 3m, and keep the gradient and distance acceptable on any "branch" pipes, you can run them along inside the roof to a shorter ventilated stack.

Presumably, the bathroom that the SVP is servicing is staying put?
If you plan to use hollow web engineered joists (e.g. Easijoists by Trussform) then it is possible to run a 110mm pipe through these or just orientate (if possible) the joists so that the joists run with the pipe. Either way, it means that you could hide the loo pipe in the floor space and have the SVP on the new outside wall.

*It may mean planning for deeper joists though.

The alternative is to move it to an internal corner, box it in and vent it through the roof. Who is designing this extension?
