Though unsightly do solder runs/ snots on pipes have any impact? I try and solder quiet neat both on show and on unseen pipe work. My colleague doesnt solder neat on pipework under floors etc and leaves snots

back in the day leaded solder used everywhere on copper left neat little pimples on a horizontal joint. Now the dreaded unleaded runs out like p*ss and leaves spikes under horizontal joints. That and banning hemp+paste is progress. It makes no difference to the strength of a joint whether pimpled, spiked , snotted or cleaned off.

Just snotted down the pipe . I use a flux brush so try clean it off it runs down the pipe. Can solder run like it does down the outside of the pipe on the inside?

It can do if the pipe is clean.....makes no odds, but a flush out is vital. It's amazing the ****e that comes out.
John :)

On a vertical coupling, I feed solder into the top of the fitting, until a ring appears at the bottom... Thus no candle waxing!
On a tee you can sometimes do same. For an elbow where you have to defy gravity, capillary action should help you out... Don't over flux the joint and wipe excess off before sweating. A pastry brush is a good flux brush and you can flick off the snots as they run... Almost painting the tube with solder! For anything that persists and you want shot of... Just use a metal file to remove it. As for sharp spikes on a horizontal joint, i.e: under a floor a few taps with a pipe slice will remove the finger hazard ;)

Wait until you are in you 50's, i can hang my coat on the snots i get now

Thank was just worried the inside of.the pipe may look like the outside.with the snots thus effecting flow

There is little as annoying as cutting a pipe to alter it only to find solder has run down from a fitting six inches away and you can't get the fitting on the pipe.
