Soldering copper next to a fitting

I need to solder a 15mm copper 90 degree bend about 11 to 12cm away from the fitting which contains some plastic materials too. I the soldering fire mat which has been great but for this particular solder I’m more concerned that because it’s relatively close to the fitting that the heat will travel to the housing and potentially mess up some plastics on it. Is there a way to keep that valve body that I don’t want to get hot to stay cool? One suggestion I read is to wrap a wet cloth around it. Not sure if this is the recommended way.

I remember seeing something on YouTube a while back some sort of putty that you can wrap around the pipe and beyond that spot where the putty is it doesn’t heat up. Does something like this exist?

AIUI a wet rag is the most common way of managing this.
Although, can you not remove the plastic fitting first?

Photo below. I don’t believe the plastic green thing is removable. How wet should the rag be? Or just damp/moist?

If it's only 120mm away then it's touch and go. The rag would need to be soaking wet and that may protect the plastic but in turn it may stop the fitting from getting hot enough for the solder to take properly. I'd remove the whole thing before soldering if possible.
