Is it ok to solder a joint close(about 3 inches) to a compression joint?
wasn't sure if i'd melt any plumbing tape on olive or something

It must be plastic pipe, using push fit fittings and has gas running through it

THATS WHY HE IS TRYING TO SOLDER IT

FFS USE SOME COMMON SENSE

If there is PTFE in the compression joint and you melt it, the joint is likely to leak. If there is no PTFE = no problem.

I don't usually use PTFE in compression joints but plenty of people do, so my advice would be to do it with caution.

If you were taking the bother to drain down & solder then obviously loose the compression fitting.

I have heard/seen plenty of people trying to solder malleable steel, stainless steel, galvanised steel and chrome(d) pipe, and not even only diy-ers.
Not to mention lead.

Much rather wipe a taft , underhand , rolled , knuckle or even branch joint than use a lead lock  ;)..........& when i can't find the fustian cloth/mole skin/wiping cloth i'll revert to a brown paper bag. :p ............old school @ it's best. ;)

We even used to make are own lead ingots/sticks............. :D

phew wat a few weeks i've had.! anyway thanks for the replies..
it's a 15mm water pipe.. wouldn't dare meddle with a gas pipe :)
will be tackling the job today.. ta for the replies again!
