I posted this on the "kill the poor" thread, and as a 1930s home owner found it interesting.
About 7 minutes in it talks about the design of 1930s houses - describes the idea as creating airy homes for good health - maybe that is why they never bothered with worrying about preventing damp - the houses were designed to have doors and windows open all the time!

A very productive market is 'Mr Damp' for the unscrupulous. People can spend £1000s when a simple solution is to vent the house/room.
My daughter has a 1900 cottage and was worried about damp/mold forming on the bedroom walls/ceiling. She was fearing the worse but was just a case of keeping the bedroom window open at night and replacing loft insulation.
Another case was severe damp on a wall, which turned out to be a leaking pipe pressure joint in the bathroom.

We don't have the luxury of sleeping with the window open - bungalow near busy road. Gets a bit noisy, and not safe either!
