My lad is getting a 52 plate Mitsubishi Spacestar.

It has a standard Mitsubishi stereo in it.

Without buggering about changing the unit, what is the most reliable method of setting up a means of playing music on a phone through the car's speakers?

If it has no usb, bluetooth or aux input visible then have a search around for that model of radio and aux, there is likely aux inputs on the rear that you can tap into.

If not then there are always the (not so legal) fm transmitters that you feed from the phone.
Just remind him that he cannot alter his music (on the phone) whilst driving.

Thanks! Naiive old me didn't realise the FM kit was not kosher!

They may well be now (I'm not wading through a 96 page document ta), but my understanding was that your not allowed to transmit on the broadcast bands.
They do interfere, especially when you pull up at traffic lights type of thing :)

I like the 2nd victsing one, given that the socket is usually down in the middle he will be looking at that and not the road... (so best not that one lol).

The griffin one has a long lead so he can put the phone in a cradle (perhaps a vent one) and have the lead connect to it with the transmitter preset - so no messing with it.
The victsing one without the display seems best imho, it can be plugged into by a long lead as above AND it also doubles to make it a handsfree adapter as it has a simple button to anser/hang up phone calls by the look of it.

Just ensure he is aware to never touch the phone to change track whilst driving.

You absolutely ARE NOT.

Ofcom no longer need to go out with the old Austin vans, like they used to do, with the big antennas on the roof to track tranmitters illegal interference sources down. They can now do it all remotely for towers around the UK, controlled and directed over the Internet.
