Hello,

I just moved into a 1920's house and I want to lay laminate flooring.

Today I removed the carpets and realised that there are lots of boards (I don´t know what they are, they look like cardboard/playwood and break easily if you pull them) around the room and I am pretty sure that the rest of the house will have them too.

I removed one by the door to see if there was something wrong underneath but the floorboard looked fine.

Now I have no idea if I should go ahead and removed them all or just lay the floor on them (of course I will use an underlay)

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like your floors have been covered with sheets of hardboard - often done when a flatter floor is needed for the likes of lino or carpet tiles etc.
Most floorboards will have some sort of warp in them, and the severity of that warp decides whether you need an extra covering or not.

Hello,

Thank you for your replays... I googled Hardboards and they are definitely that. The room is all covered except the path from the door to the radiator... I think the best way to ho is just get some hardboards and cover the room completely??

thanks!!

There could be the odd area within the room where the boards aren't as good as they could be, so I reckon to add hardboard to the missing areas, and away you go with your laminate.....do read the flooring instructions regarding underlay though, and the doors may well need trimming down afterwards.
Good luck with your project!
John :)
