Hi,

I need to sound proof one wall as we live in a semi.

I have a few questions in relation to building the timber frame:

a) What size and type of fixings do I need to screw the timber to the concrete floor?

b) If I wanted to double up the stud wall do I need to stagger the second one or can I screw the timber onto the first stud wall?

c) How do I secure the rockwool to the frame, especially if the frame is doubled up?

many thanks

You don't need to double up, just make sure the frame is fixed floor and ceiling, not to the wall itself though, leave 20mm gap.

Big screws through the timber into the floor and ceiling, find the ceiling joists and fix to them.

Fix wire, garden netting or nylon string to the back of the frame, make sure you are using rigid rockwool, and not the loft insulation roll.

Use 15mm plasterboard if you can find it.
