Hi,

I have a loft conversion and have fitted solar pv to the roof. since the panels have gone on it is very noisy in heavy rain, will re boarding with sound bloc boards help to reduce this or is it a wasted effort?

Cheers

Steve.

You could do it and it will probably make a small difference but only you can decide if its worth the cost effort. Sound is down to personal perception, quoting a few db reduction or whatever is irrelevant. Check your rafters can cope with the extra weight if you go or it. And report back if it was worth it if you do.

So few people ever bother to come back to say whether their sound reducing methods were effective or not we never know!

Hi

Similar issue with the flat part of my new extension roof. Rain very noisy. Ive got an EPDM roof, 18mm ply then joists. In between the joists is 120mm Celotex and across the bottom of the joists another 30mm of Celotex. This has dampened the sound, but it is still there. I am now awaiting delivery of the plasterboard and I have ordered soundbloc to do the ceiling so will report back on what I find. Sounbloc is about 30kg per sheet so very heavy.
