we live in a 1900s terrace house and both us, and now our neighbours have bare floorboards in the adjacent bedrooms. I have read the other posts on here and have come up with a plan to minimise the transmitted sound, but was hoping for some advice from some wiser souls.

The wall itself already has sound insulating board on it with a skim on top, so the sound appears to transmitted through the floor. My plan is to lift the boards near the wall and check for any holes in the mortar and fill if required, then to stuff the gaps between the joists with acoustic wadding/ high density rockwool stuff at that end of the room. Would there be any benfit in doing the whole floor as it is just sound from next door which is the problem. My concern is that maybe the joists (ours and the neighbours) are butted up against each other in the wall, in which case doing what i suggest wouldnt make any difference. Do they usually butt the joist up together or is there usually a gap? Clearly putting carpets down would be a simple solution but we really like the look of the floorboards. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

yep the noise is mainly passing through the structure so any measures will have minimal effect

a couple off rugs on the main traffic areas will not only help underfoot but will also absorb some off the airborne sound

Want a solution! Take up the floorboards, stick 6mm thick regupol along the top side of the joists, stick 2X2 battens to the regupol then relay the floorboarding over 19mm plasterboard. While you have the flooring up lay 100mm fibre insulation in the floor void - will need to have a minimum density of 12kg/m3. Job done your side, then you will need to convince your neighbour as the sound will still travel through the fabric of the building from his side to your side.

See www.cmsacoustic.co.uk for details on regupol.
