Spares markup.

Today I replaced a fan on a Gloworm boiler. This fan was twice the price of a Vokera Flowmatic fan. What is more annoying is that no gaskets are supplied with the fan. Now it is a case of ordering the gaskets, picking them up from the supplier, calling the client and then replacing the existing (which are falling apart.

On rip off merchants, I am with PVM.

I know what you mean about the price of spares. Last week I needed a 24v transformer for a Glow Worm 40 Super, parts Center quoted £36 + vat, I went to Maplins & got a transformer with 2 x 12v secondary circuits & linked them to get my 24v for the gas valve.......price £9.98.

Hope that was a manufacturer approved modification

Well if you can't beat them...

I was in Partscenter last Saturday after an £8 stat, which they had. Two lads came in with half a Mexico. They pointed at the gas valve (Honeywell grey button) and said something like "one of vem fings". Happily Partscenter didn't have one or the guy, (from plumbcenter, serving, cos Partscenter is shut Saturdays) couldn't find one, but he could quote the price, £120 + vat.
I had one on the van, so drove away £141 better off. That's a serious profit.

When I buy at trade price from my independant spares stockist they tell me to add on 30% + vat to bring it up to retail.
