We are approaching the end of a house renovation and need to start thinking about painting. We have tall skirting, dado rails, wood panelling and panel doors currently varnished to a dark finish. We need these white. I've been testing various paints and can get the dark covered with two coats of acrylic undercoat.
My order of attack is going to be:
-wash down with sugar soap to remove the plasterer's many spills and also spot imperfections.
-Fill holes
-Sand with electric palm sander 80 grit. Change sheets often as varnish clogs/melts deposits back on woodwork.
-2 coats of acrylic undercoat
-light sand and tack cloth
-2 coats of top coat

Thing is, this will take me weeks. I've considered spraying but know from emulsion experience that I'll waste a lot and get a lot on new plaster. Am I making a meal of this or missing any obvious shortcuts/ better approaches that will get me moved in before Christmas!

Thanks.

An airless sprayer may be the fastest- once you factor in the time to mask up.

I am currently doing a hall, stairs and landing for the daughter of a regular customer. I factored in a 25% discount. I didn't know at the time that I would be using Farrow and Ball waterbased eggshell. I assumed two coats of oil based eggshell. On some of the woodwork, I have had to apply 4 coats of the f&b.

I think I need to invest in an airless sprayer, or refuse to work with light coloured water based eggshell...
