I am tiling a splash back area behind my gas hob.

The gap between the the 2 wall cupboards above is 90cm and the tiles are 30cm wide so the bottom 2 rows of tiles will be wider than the gap between the 2 wall cupboards by the time I have added a 3mm grout.

There will be 5 rows of tiles so what is the best way to do this job?

Lay 2 full rows of tiles to around to just over 90cm, then trim the 3 rows above down to fit between the cupboards
Trim all 5 rows so they are just less than 90cm
Run a plastic tile edge trim from top to bottom on the inside edge of the cupboards all the way down to the worktop and trim all tiles to fit within the trim

I suspect any of the above will work but just wondering what would look best.

Thanks.

Tile with gap in centre for first row.
Second row how you have them in the picture but trim either side.

I actually want to tile one directly above the other, not offset.

So I guess my question is should I trim the first 2 rows to keep them inline with the tiles that will fit in side the space between the 2 wall cupboards?

Here's a controversial idea :-
Why not go for 4 tiles on the bottom until it reaches the cupboards ? That way your 3rd row will be an 'L' each side, and the trim will be clearly defined as it'll be 150 mm in/overlap from each cupboard ? It makes it a better looking shape as well imo
