Yeah but don't worry, it was his head, no damage done. :D

To be serious, what a lucky lad eh? He's actually a Territorial. He's a Spark by trade apparently. Might be one of the lads from here....... Hold on a minute.... Softus!

ah well if he's a sparky then he's got brains to spare...
he could always re-train as a plumber..
they aint as cleverer as we am..

He ain't that clever. He was knocked onto his back from the force of the bullet hitting him. But he turned to his pal and asked, 'Have I been shot?' Bright as a Button!

there's a difference between getting hit and getting shot..
getting hit means a bullet hit you but was stopped by your body armour / helmet / grandpa's pocket watch etc..
getting shot means you're bleeding from a hole made by the bullet..

this guy got hit.. and is one lucky b'tard if you ask me..

FFS ColJack, it was an effing joke man!

Was I the only one to be concerned that this was not some high powered sniper bullet that went through the several layers of kevlar in his helmet but a normal round from an AK47. Are these helmets up to the job? Are our boys as protected as they can be out there? That round went in and back out, so effectively through the helmet twice.

I think the idea is "better than nothing"

It would be quite hard to run around if you were wearing a helmet that will stop a bullet from an AKM. And even if it did the shock might snap your neck

any idea how powerful a 7.62mm round is shot from an ak47?

no helmet will stop a direct hit from a weapon of that calibre

An AK 47 round travels at around 2,329 ft per second.

There are many variants of the round and the one in this incident was of the most basic type. Had it been hollow tipped of steel plated the result might have been a lot different.

Please spare us the stupid jokes on this subject. If you can't stand 100% behind our lads, go stand in front of them.

didnt think i was making a joke john, im totally in support of our troops having served as one. I was trying to make the point that a helmet wont stop a bullet of that calibre.

So what were you implying when in your reply to Thermo, you wrote:
