Squeaking gas meter

Hi all,

I turned the gas off at teh meter while working around the peipes that feed the cooker, then when I ted it back on the meter started squeaking while gas was being used . . .I can see the whel going aroudn, so guess its this that squeaks, and realise that I can't exactly fix it, but its a bit irritating . . .
Any theorys as to why, and will BG come and sort it out?

The older they are, they more likely they are to be noisy. Quite likely it's been squeaking a long time, and you haven't noticed.

I remember many years ago an old house with a big pre-war meter with bellows inside it, when a 100BTU boiler (it was a big house) was installed, the meter sounded as if it was trying to fly off the wall

Tell your supplier it is noisy and if they feel like it they will give you a new one.

Don`t worry about it when an old meter gets noisey it means it is staring to wear and doesn`t register properly and is in the customers favour
