squeaks

I have a 1998 Misubishi carisma 1.8 gdi.
After driving approx 20 miles squeaks start sometimes continuous sometimes intermittant. It only seems to happen at about 40mph. If I touch the brakes the noise stops. The front pads where replaced about 20k miles ago.

If it is coming from the front.
I would start by checking the front discs for excessive wear(ridge forming at the top of the disc)and rusting on the edge of the discs.you may also need to check for disc warping,this can sometimes be felt through the brake pedal (slight pulsing under foot when brakes applied) or it can be checked by a garage on "the rolling road".

If it is coming from the rear.
Remove the drums clean out any dirt/dust and check that everything is in place (springs etc.).
