how hard for a reasonably confidant diyer to replace treads and risers in a straight 13 tread stair

treads are fitted from the back and are glued in so i would imagine near impossible.

Whats the reason for changing the treds?

about 8 of them have opened up, split or just plain rotten also the left hand stringer is concaved so i want to tighten them up

Changing them is big work. I would go over the top of them all with plywood/mdf (18mm), glue and screw each one to make solid.

Quite a bit of work involved there, probably cheaper for you to buy a new staircase!
