hi,
can anyone help with a question,
low amp welder, what size of stick should i use and what sizes can you get.

It depends what you are going to weld. Sticks are usually 2.0mm, 2.5mm, 3.2mm or 4mm for light work.
 
is there a general rule of power to stick size or can i use anysize of sick with
low amps, would be welding mild steel, car wings etc.

Youll be struggling to put on car wings nicely with a stick welder.

If you must though, 2mm rods.

Throw the stick welder in the shed and get a Mig or you'll make a right balls up of it !
 
thanks guys for the info...
im only doing minor repaires so will stay with the stick for now..
cannot use the mig because it needs to be portable and i dont have a power supply in the garage..

You`re a fine man--to be able to work one of them :eek: I tried a low amp mains one , and wasted £60.00 about 15 years ago :evil: binned it . and Borrow mate`s MIGs. now :LOL:
