Over the last couple of months we've been noticing an 'orrible smell coming from our kitchen sink. It’s an undermount sink and it’s only been in for about 4 months. Chucking some bleach down the plug holes seemed to clear it but I think the bleach was just masking the smell. Looking down the plug holes with a torch, there was no sign of dirt or grime and they were as clean as the day they were fitted. A few nights ago, Mrs Mottie has found the source of the smell - it’s from a build up of stagnant water that has been laying between the top of the sink and the bottom of the worktop. When the quartz worktop was fitted, they ran a bead of silicone around the top surface of the sink before settling the worktop over it. There an approx 5mm overhang so nothing runs in there from the draining board. No water can get past the silicone bead so it’s doing its job but now that we know where the smell is coming from, it’s just a matter of cleaning/drying in that gap but I’m wondering if is worth filling the gap with clear silicone. Is that the proper way to do it?

I've come across under counter sinks that were just stuck in place with silicone....Barmy!
They all failed at some point.
Definitely silicone that gap, rake out any crap and dry first.
John :)
