Strange light bulb discovery!!

One of the Energy saving bulbs in our house will not fire up to full power without hovering your hand within 2" of it!!!!
It only does it when the bulb is cold but its a dead cert you will need to do it.

I wonder why that is

I reckon im like that kid from the film 'Shine' albeit older and with more hair though grey it is!

because it is really a folded florescent tube.

very often due to weakness in the ballast on start, it will not strike over.
