Stuck Valve Closed?

If you have a multi meter, first thing to check is with a demand for heat is there 240vAC going to the motor of the valve

I don't but I know someone who does. I'll check with it in the morning.

If there is 240v and it's doing nothing what is this likely to prove? And likewise, if there isn't 240v, what would that point to?

If there is 240 then the synchron motor is goosed, if there isnt you have a wiring or external control fault

Ok so I've taken it off but I'm not entirely sure how to test if power is being received. Could someone provide some tips?

I have marked one connector and you can see the other one, you put your MMeter probes in here and you should get 240 v when there is a demand for that valve to open

Thanks. I gave it a go but it blew the fuse. Not sure what that indicates. No reading on the meter. I've ordered a new part anyway so hopefully when it arrives it solves my problem.

The one I ordered has 5 wires but one wire is a different colour. It appears to be white instead of black. I take it I can just wire it up as normal and replace the black for white?

normally only the 28mm valves have a white wire but so many around these days so post a pic of the new one when it arrives and I will tell you

Looks black to me? Hope it’ll work and last.

Edit: sorry thought you were on about the flex, my bad

Yes there’s a white wire.

Maybe what I see as grey is actually black and the white is the grey? That would explain it.

Hopefully. I'll see how I go when it arrives. Thanks for all the advice so far.

Hopefully it is a bad photo and there is a brown in there somewhere, that head can be used in 28mm or 22 mm zone valves so the white would be if used on a 28mm zone valve with gravity HW, you will have to wait until the actuator arrives to see

Ok, got the part. It is a white wire but fortunately they provide a label in the box.

Wish me luck!

Its fine it just replaces the brown wire, everything else is exactly the same, thats the problem with cheap imports

Ok. So I've replaced the part. Wired it up before fitting and it worked correctly when the thermostat called heat the motor turned and hit the micro switch which turned the boiler on..but...

I have an issue fitting it over the valve. It turns freely but when I fit the motor it appears that it doesn't turn the valve in the motion it should to allow the motor to hit the micro switch. Looking at the turning motion of the actuator and the actual valve they don't seem to match.

Is it possible to adjust the fitment that turns the lever?

Edit - got it on to the valve and it works but I'm not convinced the valve ever closes. The manual lever is loose when there is no call for heat.

Looks to me like the valve also needs replacing?
