Sorry for the long post...

Creating a new sub floor in a bedroom and living room. The old floorboards are being replaced with plywood sheets screwed down onto joists. The sheets are only 18mm thick compared with the 25mm thick floorboards I'm throwing away.

My problem is a long stud partition, parallel to the joists, resting on the floorboards. Annoyingly, the stud partition is not directly over a joist. It runs parallel to and half way between two joists. The construction of the partition is Victorian style lath and plaster. I'm not sure if they used bottom plate and top plate in 1860. I suppose the bottom stud frame is just nailed into the floorboards.

I want to keep the stud partition. So how do I go about replacing the sub floor?

I want to take all the floorboards away but if I do then the stud partition is unsupported. What are the options ? Ideally I want to push the plywood under the stud partition somehow. Is this possible ? Even if I do this, there is a 7mm height difference between old floor and new, so should I buy some 7mm plywood strips as shims to jam under the partition and support it? Maybe I should abandon the plywood sub floor and leave a small "island" of old floorboards in place, just to support the stud partition. With this approach I could lay the plywood down to butt up to the partition "island".

Any do's/don'ts much appreciated.
