Three outside lights..

Three sensors (one on each light)

Each sensor needs to be able to trigger all the lights..

Suggestions on how to wire them, was thinking about a contactor, but dont want a four core to the light really.

I suppose I need to see the lights and what they are rated at, I dont think they are more that 150w each though.

i think u can get lights what link to each other

Assuming all three lights are off the same supply, i suppose you need to join up all three outputs from each sensor together so that when one light triggers ,its sends a feed to the other two lights.

id get some of the lights on your bench and try that before basing an install on it

some pirs don't like to be parallell wired

The other thing is:

CHECK THE PIR CAN SWITCH THE COMBINED LOADS!!

securespark.. thats my concern..hence thinking about using a contactor.

You could use 3 core cable to each sensor and light. Red powering the sensor, blue feeding the light and sensor, and the yellow being the switched live from the sensors.

Therefore one sensor setting them all off. The problems you have is that a sensor would have to switch a larger load, ie.. 3x 500w...so therefore need a 1500w switching load on it. There are some about, but are more expensive.

As to the sensor having power applied it via the sw live connection, im sure the sensors would be ok just keep your receipt for the items(12months warranty). If you fit a 500w halogen light with PIR, and dont require the PIR you put the live into the same block as the output of the PIR, so this is the same as above..

You could throw in a switch somewhere that throws 240v onto the yellow so you can switch the lights on together as desired.

I want to have a look at the lights and confirm how they switch..if they are small relays I can allways replace them with bigger ones :) or look at using a contactor but it needs a four core cable does it not.. three pints for lunch and im brain dead.

Neutral
sensor Live
Sensor Out
Bulb Live In.

All's you would need is..1.0mm 3 core (red, blue, yellow, earth)

Red being permanent live feeding all 3 sensors.
Blue being neutral and feeding all the lights, and the sensors.
Yellow being a switched live from all the sensors feeding the lights.

Earth as usual, going to everything.

Wire it in 1.0mm 3 core, its the size of 2.5mm T&E..and its done.. Terminate the wires into everything, and use what you want, then connect it through to the next light, sensor etc..

Must stress you need a powerful sensor...otherwise the contacts will stick.

i am not saying it doesnt, i would guess they do not use relays since they cost more than a triac for example

You would need four core + earth if using a contactor. Or 3 core + E for the sensors, and twin + E for the lights.

If you do have 1500 plus watts, think of cable and protection size!! Also, be aware of the switch on surges of several halogen lights of high wattage!!!

cheers, talked them out of it :D

Breezer, I took one apart and it has a relay rated at 5A. and Im sure its more lilkely to use a transistor to switch this on.
