We've installed some second-hand office partitions that are metal rimmed and set into a timber (3x2") frame.

We're looking for an appropiate trim to cover the exposed timber and the metal frame which is a bit worse for wear. See pic at end of post.

We could use wooden beading or architrave and shave it to size but I'm worried it's too thick and won't look the part.

Ideally we'd like some lightweight metal trimming that would neatly cover the area - which is 64mm in most places and 56mm in some places.

Any suggestions.

Yep as Libby says, UPVC Trim, inexpensive and comes in a range of sizes.

And even different colours: http://www.nationalplastics.co.uk/gb/catalogue/D/Architrave & Trims[/QUOTE]

can these be painted?

ideally we wanted to paint them a light grey. I'm guessing it's not easy find upvc trimmings like this in grey already.

also, how about the exact sizes - the 64mm and 56mm that we need - can they be made to order

Get some aluminium or thin steel strips cut to size.

thanks.

who does these? building merchants or specialist metalwork shops?
A building merchant won't be any good, I would think any metal supplier/fabricator would be happy to help depending on quantities. Probably a smaller greasy set-up would be better than some big commercial works.

So I got some offline advice to use thin MDF. Apparently these can be as thin as 3mm and hopefully even less and then we can glue these on with a strong glue (e.g. "no nails")?

We plan to cut the MDF in 64mm and 56mm strips and paint it, then glue on.

Would this work?

Also how thin can I get MDF for this purpose (we want it to look fairly flush)

MDF can/could indeed be used and (apart from the UPVC Trims), is probably the cheapest option if you wish to finish it by painting. However, UPVC Trim is available in grey. Try these links: CLICK HERE.

If you decide to go the MDF route, it's simple to cut to size and work to the finish you want and can be painted. It can be fixed with either a 'No Nails' type adhesive or pinned with wire nails, tap with a punch and the hole filled over with caulk or other filler, sand and paint.

just stick strips of wallpaper over them.. flush as it gets ( besides paint ) and does the job..
