my heart goes out to them. I was a trained diver for the police, and that is one hell of an envioronment to be stuck in and to try and get someone rescued from.

Apparently it was 24 hrs before the russian navy admitted it had a problem and even longer before they called for international aid.

Thermo do you still dive?

Well, the news was saying

Discarded fishing net reported to be snagged around mini-sub's propellor

However, now the news is saying:

The Russians have been trying to tow the submarine to shallower water, where divers could cut it free, but are hindered by very heavy anchors reportedly attached to an underwater antenna array in which the Priz is also caught up.

That's new...

If the Russians were dragging their heels, it could be due to national security issues. They waited more than a day before they asked for any help, which I think is terrible after Kirsk. You would think that one of the prime submariner nations would have invested in rescue strategies and equipment BEFORE that shambles, let alone after.

Yay ! A good, old-fashioned happy ending, and the fact it involves old enemies working together is even better......
