when the stat calls for heat the valve should motor and the orange wire from the h/w zone valve should go live
ie turn the stat up and see if the orange is live

ok, i am now thinking after the advise that you gave tjat it is the silver box. the multimater is at another house, i will have to do it tomoz now....
