Surge protection?

Do not mention AFDDs then! :giggle:
They are "in the queue" as well, but perhaps not 'quite as bad' as SPDs, since I presume that the proponents will attempt to argue that they do have a (I would think incredibly small) potential to 'save lives' (by preventing fires?).

As we've often discussed, I fear that a lot of these 'advances in safety' come into being only because they have become technologically possible, and represent a potential fortune for those who manufacture, sell and install them, without adequate (sensible) thought being given into the extent (if any) of any significant 'need'.

Voltage optimisers v snake oil ???
As I often observe, some of the present-day proponents of SPDs were, not that many years ago, describing any sort of 'surge protection' as 'snake oil' - perhaps because, without much thought, they are obsessed with 'what is required (or even 'recommended') by regulations' (no matter how sensible, or otherwise, are those regulations).

Well I've always reckoned the way they are installed is inappropriate and that thought hasn't changed. A church hall I have dealing with had CU change several years back and everytime I access it the SPD's MCB is off, however it is located beside the 3 RCBOs for stage lighting which are switched off when not in use. So I don't know if it is tripped or switched off when theb others are.
But whatever reason the SPD is in the meantime doing absolutely nothing.
