Just had one of my T4 under cupboard lights fail. At first it just went out, then when it was powered up again it was flickering. Rather worryingly one end had got hot to the extent that the plastic cover had melted onto the tube. Anybody seen this before? The lights were from b&q 3 years ago. The lights are instant start and I've never liked the way it started the tubes with quite a violent flicker. It doesn't seem conducive to long lamp life. . . I'm going to replace with some nice LED units i think.

I had a T4 tube fail, slightly melting the clear plastic cover that fitted fairly tightly over it. No sign of damage to the fitting (aside from the slightly melted clear cover) replaced the tube and the same thing happened about 12 months later, now replaced with an LED tube/fitting.

I have T4 failure as well.

But I'm taking Levothyroxine for it.

We had several of them in our kitchen, had nothing but trouble with them & several different failure modes. I would not have them again.
