There are four terminals on the rear of a lockout reset button switch.
on the left are two terminals, one above the other, each marked with an arrow (a shaft with arrow head), pointing in opposite directions from each other in between them is "A", on the right are the other two terminals one above the other, the top one is marked as "1" and the other below it "2" in between them is "B".

What do the arrows mean ? i.e. negative, positive, earth ?

What do does A, B, 1, 2 mean regarding how to connect wires ?

No instructions supplied by manufacturer.

What's it for? What's the environment/situation it's in? Why do you have to fiddle with it?

Is it for a DC application?

Probably "Not to be fiddled with by people who don't know what they are doing".

No instructions supplied by manufacturer.
Then reject it. And/or notify Trading Standards.

The lockout reset button is for a central heating boiler, the reset failed and a new one supplied; same product number, same size for same job but different terminal markings, still four terminals as original. unable to find out what the arrows stand for to determine which existing wires to attach to. No wiring diagram with new switch, nothing found on the internet to answer the question, what do arrows mean on a switch. Inside the lockout reset button is a light to indicate when lockout occurs.
Electricians 17th edition does not answer this simple query.

WTH is he?

Tell him that "not knowing" is not acceptable.

Tell him that not supplying adequate instructions makes the item not fit for purpose, which is an offence under the Sale of Goods Act.

Could you post a picture of these markings? I've just come across something that might explain them.

Where did you buy it from?
Bosch component, one interesting comment on the net stated that some manufacturess decide to annotate their own products with their own icons and identification; much to the annoyance of people like me, so after careful consideration I decided to inspect the wiring inside, then fitted an identical one after making a wiring diagram, now lights up like a Christmas Tree in lockout. Pity the Brand New Gas Control unit is now buggered and the boiler still does not ignite. Watch this space for episode two.

So Bosch are unable to supply installation instructions for their products?

Forgive me if I say I don't believe that.

Bosch still have not yet replied, the product arrived in a sealed plastic bag with no wiring instructions.
I've solved this problem and the button is working.

It would be helpful for others in the same situation if you could tell us how you solved the problem.

Upon investigation of the jammed original button, it had broken internally so investigation ensued, a new button was then opened up to see exactly the layout and connections inside, so comparing the two products that had the same internal components it was then easy to identify how the button circuitry was connected and to which terminal each wire was to be fitted, if I have the time I will post images.
