That looks iffy to me. Ask an Ozzie employee! There are far too many people in this country who think they can have champagne on a beer budget.

You could also recognise that's where the income is higher tooView attachment 397883View attachment 397884
Same type of house hugely different price.
If you want to make it fair, tax by M^2
Or you could call it a "Southerner tax" and be honest about what the goal is.

I'm not suggesting that.Yes but, homes are cheaper else where and when you have nhs staff or civil servants earning the same amount is it fair that those who live in cheaper areas , with the same income as those in more expensive areas pay more for their council taxes? I don’t think so
Just because homes are more expensive doesn’t mean all incomes are higher either
Council tax is unfair because it is not linked to the ability to pay. My wife and I are retired and earn between us less than 30K. The people either side of us earn around 150k per couple. Our house is slightly bigger (well it has a double garage - the neighbours have a singl, garage). and is in a higher council tax band. We earn less - but pay more council tax.
I'm not suggesting that.
I'm just pointing out that higher value houses are concentrated around higher earning areas.
Not everybody is a high earner or has a high value house. Unlikely that "ordinary" wage earners in the high value housing areas will have a high value house.
In fact those ordinary level workers will struggle to find accomodation they can afford in high value housing areas. They certainly can't afford more tax without sacrificing sonething
I think it needs to be based on the current valuation PLUS the number of over 18s not in education

No.Yes you were , as is John D
No.
Look at the points made.
Where are most high value houses? In high income areas, or elsewhere ?

Yes, and it would affect those earning most (the high earners), who are generally in the more expensive houses.Yes but high value in a cheaper area is still going to be lower than a high value in a more expensive area, yet the person in the high value house in a poor area might have a higher income than the person in a high value house in a richer area
This is nothing but politics of envy
A local income tax would be much fairer IMHO

In my opinion basically because there are not enough different valuation bandsi would like someone to explain why my 3 bed as built mid victorian terrace with no more extra space [no loft room]than the bathroom tacked on the is a band D as are all other simmilar houses in the road
