Telephone wont work but Broadband OK

gotta weird one here

mother in laws telephone has no dial tone, doesnt ring, basically dead but her broadband works fine.

I've tested all the wiring from the BT box on the eaves of the house (which is not wet or damp) straight back via a junction box then to the master socket.

I've tried a new master socket and tried the socket in the attic itself inplace of the junction box but still no dial tone

what I dont understand is her BT broadband works fine ?

I've told her to call BT as the fault must lie away from the house

it doesnt take long to ring 150 and do an automated line test.

broadband signals will travel where phone signals wont.

no we tried 3 different phones too

assuming the line is working well enough to actually ring 150......

agreed, the things that kill broadband tend to be very different from the things that kill phone (though a major cable break or short will obviously kill both).

when you ring 150, im sure there is an option to line test another line

phone now working normally

reported fault online at BT, engineer was due to call next week but I've heard today that phone is now back working
