Tempramental Spotlights

Hi All...
12 spotlights in my kitchen...
I switch the lights on and some do not switch on until I WACK ! the lights....WHY ???

I think they are 12V Halogens...the two pins plug into a small socket which dangles off a wire which inturn plugs into some kind of black box for each light.....Ive replaced the two pin holder but same problem...

Any ideas /

How long have the lights been in for?

sorry for the delayed reply... YES !!! slightly scortched on the edge...the wires were quite hot too I thought.......the light have been in for about 4 years now.....

Thanks !!!! just to double check....theyve always done this since new....my builder was a nightmare.....still think its a bad connection ??
