Hi everyone.

I have recently brought a new cooker and was getting it installed today but the engineer told me the my terminal box is not suitable for a 6mm cable.

Can this happen? Can cables diff from cooker to cooker or is my engineer telling me porkies to get more money out of me?

Thanks

Steph

More information needed.

What is the power in kW of the new cooker?

Is the existing cooker supply on it's own circuit from the fuse box/consumer unit? If so, what size fuse or circuit breaker (in amps A) serves it?

What kind of connection unit did the old cooker connect to?

Pictures would be really useful here to give you a decent answer.

It could but if the outlet terminals are designed for up to 45A, as it should for a cooker then 6mm cables should fit!

You would expect normally to be dealing with 6mm cables but could be anything from 2.5mm upwards
or is my engineer telling me porkies to get more money out of me?
We would only know that if we knew what the sizes of the terminal within the outlet were.
Unless you are talking about jointing two sets of 6mm cables together, in the same terminal port? Than that could be an issue!

This
ae235
is a cooker connection unit and would be standard in new kitchen.
This
ae235
would normally feed a cooker connection unit but in some cases cookers are connected directly to these.
However this
ae235
is a fused connection unit which may be used to power an oven or baby belling special small cooker but is not suitable for a full sized cooker.

So what have you got?
