Just wondering, if i put one in my van would it work so if someone broke in at night my alarm ( if that pir was used in part arm) would sound and wake me up?

Yes if A the signal will go out of that metal box ( van ) and if you remember to bring it back into the house every morning before you set off to work ( it may report the device missing )
