Today, for the first time since the VAT change, I have jet-washed the van. Appalling, I know!!

When I paid for the token, it was the same price as the token I bought when VAT was at the higher rate.

Surely the price should have dropped?

Jet washes I assume are VAT-able?

it will be even more expensive when the VAT goes up again to 17.5%

its been common practice for many firms to increase prices and drop the VAT rate. when it goes up no doubt they will raise the VAT again but not drop their price. will be even even worse if it goes to 20% or whatever was threatened a while back.

simon, perhaps their price for a jet wash has increased, making it appear they havent knocked the VAT off.

I'm betting many (smaller) companies kept their retail prices at the same level after VAT dropped, in order to make more money after they take VAT off. Clearly anyone wanting a VAT reciept would be shown the rate at 15%, with the exc-vat price slightly higher.

Supermarkets were quick to lower retail prices after VAT went down (my store had over 5000 shelf edge labels to change), but the company I work for is aiming to absorb most of the VAT increase in most depts. Some depts have gone up already, where they couldnt afford not to. But in the main, prices will remain as they are :D

Whats up with you man..... Washing the van next you will be cleaning out the chip papers and empty pop cans.
5 and a half years and only washed the van once still looks quite clean so will leave it a bit longer yet
