While true, these things are established in advance of disclosure. If you 'sign up', volunteer for the clearance etc. then you accept you might find out the odd thing you don't like. It would have been better for him to resign over it and keep his integrity intact, more likely doing significantly more damage and leading the public/press to conclude something was dodgy.

And it's pretty obvious that with Mayhem not allowing a criminal investigation (and the police now saying there is no basis for one), she was simply throwing her toys out of the pram in order to divert attention from a dodgy deal...

Gavin Williamson's ambition always outstripped his abilities, the leaking scandal was the last straw for Theresa May according to some reports.
Apparently he wanted to invade Africa and send Gunboats down to the South China sea to confront the Chinese..
Instead of an inquiry into the source of the leak maybe there should be an inquiry to find out why the quality of today's politicians is so low.
