Those crazee Geordies.

No doubt Joe will see this as a visual representation of the complete break down of law and order in UK PLC. ;)

I had to laugh at this bit: "Police may take action against the man for...not wearing a seat belt"

"The "mooning" man"

How do they know it was a man? Is the picture more detailed than it looks?

Probably the hairy nut sack below the hairy crack on the more pixellated plod version gave it away - unless it's a she-male (without the hyphen falls foul of the autocensor, for some reason ), of course .

Yeah, but in the 70s coppers were PROPER coppers, not the 16 year old po faced girls they employ these days.

Then, the cops knew who the scumbags were. When they knicked them, they would give the low life a good kicking in the back of the van. Then they'd get another good kicking back at the station.

I suppose all the p.c. bleeding heart brigade will be against this, but the streets were a lot safer and 12 year old kids didn't get shot in the head or stabbed.

Shut It!

yeah, the 70's were great. They could beat confessions out of innocent men and get them locked up for 15 or 16 years, and the Met used to have a special unit called the SPG whose job it was to drive round in green Transits looking for coloured lads. If they saw any, it was their job to jump out and beat them up.

They could also fit up mentally retarded and infertile men for rape and murder, so they only got out 20 years later when DNA testing got popular.

In those days the Vice Squad used to take bribes from strip clubs and porn shops as a sort of licence fee, and close down competition to keep profits high.

If a youngster reported his teacher, vicar or stepfather for sexual abuse, the boy or girl would often get a clip round the ear or a severe telling-off for making up stories about a respected member of the community. Churches would ship off kiddy-fiddling priests to a diffferent parish where they could do it again and again and again.

Great days, great days.

The streets were a lot safer though John that can't be denied.

And, whilst I understand the sentiment of your post, one of my best friends was in the SPG and would take exception to your portrayal ... Some may have been as you suggest but certainly not all.

"some" is more than enough.

I presume your friend was not one of those whose lockers and homes, when searched after the murder of Blair Peach, were found to contain coshes, knives, bayonets, swords and Nazi regalia.

...and when they were no-longer allowed to 'stop and search', gun and knife crime went through the roof. Great days we live in.

So, presumably, you're following the yellow brick road hoping to find some perfect place then?

There are "some" in every walk of life and in all generations including today.

My childhood was a lot safer (and better) because the streets were a safer place.

I feel sorry for parents of kids growing up nowadays and I attribute much of the demise of moral values and our current ar*e society on a lack of traditional ...

Far too many doo-gooders around today IMO.

So, yes, I prefer the 70's to today in all the ways that matter.

You presume correctly and those would be in the minority IMO.

There are good and bad everywhere John, in the 70's and today.

Oh dear, looks like we have one of those bleeding heart liberals.

Do you really think things have improved since since the 70s? Today, pensioners regularly get beaten to within an inch of their lives for their pensions, decent people get kicked to death in the street for having the audacity to ask hoodies to behave and schools have weapon detectors and on site policemen.

So what if a few mistakes were made back then and a few ethnics got their collars felt. Don't forget that people who don't make mistakes usually don't make anything. I think crime figure comparisons will bear me out!

Who's side are YOU on JohnD?
