Have to install some sockets in a wooden cabinet that has a stainless steel veneer.
Got me a little concerned and started thinking that I would have to earth the veneer.
But would I. The sockets will mount in plasterboard boxes.

The circuit will be rcd protected.

Earthing the veneer would be visually unappealing.

Thoughts appreciated

You're talking about a plastic box here? I don't see why the veneer needs earthing if there's no contact. You can get metal dry lining boxes anyway if you wanted to provide earth contact.

No need to earth the veneer, since even with metal sockets, any fault causing the veneer to be live would also make the socket front live, so causing the protective device to operate.

If you did want to earth the veneer, cut the hole for the socket but leave a tab of the metal veneer in one corner, which can then be folded into the backbox and either fixed directly to a metal backbox, or a screw/bolt used to attach an earth.

if u were terribley worried you could earth your fixing screws via red eye lette crimp? u wouldnt see it, but it is plastic!!
