I have commented in the past how when famous people become evil they seem to only get their surname mentioned "Savile" Glitter or Gadd Harris Hall and so on.

The Americans have a better system whereby if a President or somebody important is killed by a lone assassin, the perps full three names are quoted, but if it's a serial killer, just 2 names, first and surname are quoted. Learned that from the excellent Mel Gibson film 'conspiracy theory'.

Fact is the police didn't investigate because they saw the victims as willing participants not in need of protection.

Race was a factor, but the failure to even investigate in the first place was awful. You see that in nearly all the rape gang investigations of the era, the police didn't give a ****. That thread is consistent for all offenders and victims.

If the police had done anything approaching an acceptable investigation then it wouldn't have been possible to ignore the case for being too flimsy to prosecute.

Possibly. If the police had actually investigated the rapes then it would have been even faster. Not even bothering to do rape kits when the victims parents bring in semen stained clothes? The easiest statutory rape case ever. Plod didn't give a ****.

And as I've said, this is a trend. The police had, and may still have, a culture where it isn't taken seriously as a crime.

That'll be why the abuse was recognised and dealt with in the Catholic Church (and other churches and good o'l British and Irish Institutions) all those years ago.
