Hi
I have fitted 3 batten holders across the width of my house and a single switch, in the loft (batten 1 being nearest the loft hatch and switch). The least confused ceiling roses on the first floor ring, are either side of batten 3 (furthest away). I was going to come out of rose 1 with the ring (neutral, loop and earth) and carry it through all three new battens and then rejoin it to rose 2.
Which battens do I connect to the switch?
1. Do I need to connect all three, or can I ?
2. Connect batten 1 and then carry the switched live and loop through the second and stop at the third, or do I?
3. As with No. 2 but return to the switch after batten three

Lighting circuits are wired as radials, not rings, so you don’t need to rejoin rose 2.
One method to achieve your objective would be to wire as follows:-

Live from Rose 1
to
Common terminal of switch
L1 terminal of switch
to
Live terminal of batten 1
to
Live terminal of batten 2
to
Live terminal of batten 3
There it ends

Neutral from Rose 1
to
Chock block contained in switch backing box
to
Neutral terminal of batten 1
to
Neutral terminal of batten 2
to
Neutral terminal of batten 3
There it ends

Earth from Rose 1
to
Earth terminal in switch backing box
to
Earth terminal in batten 1
to
Earth terminal in batten 2
to
Earth terminal in batten 3
There it ends

Thank you for your reply. It was much simpler than I thought. Unless someone screams STOP! I shall be taking your advice 1st thing in the morning.
Thanks again

Just a couple of further points
(1) Use 1.00mm or 1.5mm flat twin and earth cable for this job.
(2) All exposed earth wires in the battens and switch box need to be covered in green / yellow sleeving.

I have 1.5 twin and earth and green/yellow sleeving. Without wanting to show disrespect, the chock block in the switch is acceptable, isn't it?
Thank you.

Yes it is, as long as it is suitably rated – use one rated 5 Amps or more.
It is becoming a more popular way of wiring lighting circuits since the regulations frowned upon the use of inaccessible junction boxes.

Sorry to high jack but this would be concerning regulation 526.3, brought in in January?

Yes, 526.3 requires that connections need to be accessible for inspection, testing and maintenance. Have a look at the link below
